Job Description
•Determines type and quantity of equipment to be installed.
•Inspects customer premises to ascertain location and space available for installation of equipment.
•Prepares cost estimate for equipment and installation and submits data to management for authorization.
•Orders equipment, prepares installation specifications, and monitors progress of installation to ensure facilities are ready on specified date.
•Specifies environmental conditions required for telephone equipment rooms.
•Coordinates with electrician to provide dedicated power, grounding, and required number of outlets.
•Specifies cable types, number of pairs, types of modular jacks, cross connects, hubs, intermediate distribution frames, and equipment racks.
•Coordinates cable installation with cable vendor or in-house cable technician.
•Creates cable plant diagrams and cable records designating and referencing all cables with their respective floor locations.
•Prepares floor plans of equipment arrangement for customer or architect approval.
•Maintains up-to-date records of cable systems, equipment inventory, spares, and floor plans.
•Maintains generators and batteries for reserve power and backup in the event of power failures.
•Coordinates installation of all new users added to the system and relocations of existing users.
•Identifies areas of operation which need upgraded equipment such as software, voice mail, or telephone equipment.
•Performs software upgrades as needed.
•Reads technical manuals and brochures to determine equipment needs or system enhancements.
•Performs equipment repairs.
•Visits vendors to learn about available products, enhancements, and services. s
